The Dhoti

 
     
  The Dhoti is considered formal wear for men in India.  
     
  The Dhoti is also worn in countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.  
     
  It is usually white or cream although some colourful ones are used at specific religious occasions.  
     
  Off-white is generally worn by the groom in bengali weddings.
White or yellow are worn by the men at their weddings.
Silk is worn on special ocassions and is very expensive.
Red are worn by priests at temples.
Kings and poets use rich colours with gold threaded embroideries.
Cotton is the most used material as its the most suitable for the climate.
