Gandhi Jayanti Day

 
     
  Republic  Day - 2nd October  
     
  This day commemorates the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation on October 2nd 1869.  
     
  Republic Day is a national holiday in India.  
     
  The United Nations General Assembly announced on June 15th, 2007 that October 2nd was also celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.  
     
  This day is celebrated by prayer services and tributes all over India.
The main celebrations take place at Raj Ghat which is Gandhi's memorial in New Delhi.
Gandhi's favourite song is usually sung : Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram.
Usually no meat or alcohol are consumed on this day.
