Milk for Babies

No one doubts that milk is the main food for babies, specially mother's milk. If this for some reason is not possible then we have to opt for initiation or continuation milk which are specially formulated to meet the baby's needs.

Initiation milk is designed for babies aged 4-6 month, after 6 months you should use continuation milk until the baby is a year old when he/she may start drinking cow milk, preferably fresh milk.

Milk not only supplies 40-50% of the energy needed as well as all the calcium the body requires, the babies should drink aprox. a half litre of milk every day.

Regarding yoghurts, these should be introduced in the baby's diet at about  8-9 months of age although the yoghurts specifically prepared for babies can be used at the age of 6 months.

Cheese (preferably fresh and low in fat) can be used at about 10-12 months of age.
